Hello Summer Fanatics. Tea Jea here again for a second round of summer jams.

I hope your summer 2009 brought you every lovely experience you dreamed up.

I just relocated to LA from SF California and I gotta say; LA provides the premium summer experience. I am surrounded by kumquat, plumeria and pomegranite trees!

This mix is a late-night session I pulled outta my pocket as I reflected on my past summer relationships. If you grew up in the 80's as I did you will appreciate this throwback to the Summer of 1984.

Tea Jea 2009

I am proud to present this first episode of summertime-vibe mixes. It's called "Rise and Shine." by Tea Jea and His Burning Hi-Fi.

I mixed this one on a laptop as I was on a tour bus traveling across the United States in the year 2000. I was touring as the FOH sound engineer for the ever-popular and revolutionary Michael Franti and Spearhead. Just as Franti opened for U2 as Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy (music by Meat Beat Manifesto's Jack Dangers) back in the day; he was now supporting a ground-breaking folk band Indigo Girls. We played huge stadiums and sheds; alot of outdoor moon-lit venues. I even got to mix live at Red Rock (i.e.U2-Live at Red Rock.) That was a dream come true.

After the show, as we traveled the very same beat highways Jack Kerouac did in the 50's and 60's, I donned my headphones and jammed out a mix that would become my all-time favorite.

Rise and Shine, for me, captures the spirit of summer mountain festivals and being free to ride without being hassled by the man. This particular mix kicks it off with my favorite Bay Area California soul singer Ledisi. It starts slow and picks up to a drum and bass tempo by the climax. It features some of my all-time favorite summer tracks including Furry Freaks feat. Terra Deva, LTJ Bukem and even some pop stadium-techno by Underworld.

Summer is almost here and I hope you have the time of your life.
